As leaves continue to fall across Decatur, city officials are reminding residents to follow proper disposal guidelines and keep leaves out of streets and storm drains.
Decatur garbage customers can take advantage of unlimited weekly yard waste collection through December 15. The service also includes one additional pickup in January and another in February.
Residents can place leaves at the curb in biodegradable bags or approved yard waste containers. Containers must be marked for yard waste only. Yellow yard waste stickers are available at the Decatur Civic Center.
City officials remind residents that burning leaves or other yard waste is not allowed within Decatur city limits. Residents should also avoid blowing leaves into streets, sidewalks or other public areas.
Leaves are one of the leading causes of clogged storm drains. The city encourages residents to clear leaves away from storm drains near their homes when possible. Keeping those drains clear can help reduce the risk of flooding.
Residents can find additional information about garbage, recycling and yard waste collection through the City of Decatur’s website.
