Decatur Memorial Hospital will host a Veterans Recognition Program at 9 a.m. in the Barnes Lobby. The event will include the unveiling of a new veterans plaque recognizing those who have served.
At 11 a.m., Friends of Decatur Cemetery will hold its annual Veterans Day remembrance ceremony at Decatur Cemetery. Volunteers place American flags at the graves of more than 1,000 known veterans as part of a tradition that began in 2009.
Also at 11 a.m., the Village of Forsyth will dedicate its renovated Veterans Memorial at 740 West Forsyth Parkway. The dedication is open to veterans, military families and the public.
In addition, the Decatur Civic Center will host its annual Fallen Heroes Tree of Honor ceremony Thursday, November 12, at 11 a.m. in the front lobby. The ceremony honors fallen military service members and their Gold Star families. The program is expected to include remarks from an Illinois National Guard brigadier general and a presentation from a Gold Star family.
Veterans Day is observed each year on November 11 to recognize and thank the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
