Pritzker Becomes First Democrat to Win Third Term as Illinois Governor

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has secured a historic third term, defeating Republican challenger Darren Bailey in yesterday’s election. The win makes Pritzker the first Democrat in Illinois history elected to three terms as governor. The last governor in the state to reach that mark was Republican Jim Thompson, who won his third term in 1982. Bailey, who also lost to Pritzker in the 2022 governor’s race, again fell short in his bid to unseat him. Pritzker’s victory cements his place in Illinois political history and extends Democratic control of the governor’s office.
