Illinois Congresswoman Mary Miller is leading a push to change how the 2030 census is used for congressional representation. Miller, a Republican, joined 44 members of Congress in a letter to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, endorsing proposed Census Bureau reforms and urging additional steps to count only U.S. citizens for congressional apportionment. The lawmakers argue high levels of illegal immigration during the Biden administration contributed to what they call skewed population counts and representation. Miller was the only member of Illinois’ congressional delegation to sign the letter. The proposal could have major implications for how House seats are distributed after 2030.
