Illinois drivers are seeing a slight break at the pump, though prices remain sharply higher than last week and last year. AAA says regular unleaded averaged $4.79 a gallon Thursday morning, down three cents from Wednesday’s $4.82. But that’s still 12 cents higher than a week ago, and well above the $3.23 average on this date in 2025. Illinois also remains far above neighboring states, with Indiana and Missouri averaging $3.89—about 90 cents less per gallon. Diesel users are getting little relief, too. Illinois diesel averaged $6.67 Thursday, down a penny overnight but up 11 cents from last week.
