The Macon County Health Department is reminding residents to be aware of ticks when spending time outdoors.
Ticks can live in a variety of places, including wooded areas, tall grass, parks, campgrounds and hiking trails. They can also be found in suburban and urban areas.
Wooded areas provide ticks with places to hide and access to animals they feed on. Grasslands can also offer the moisture, shade and animal activity ticks need to survive.
Because ticks can adapt to many different environments, residents should take precautions when spending time outside, even in familiar places close to home.
