DECATUR, Ill. — The Decatur MacArthur girls volleyball program reached a milestone Wednesday night, earning its 10th victory of the season for the first time since 2019.
The Generals defeated Clinton in three sets, 25-17, 19-25, 25-22, improving to 10-18 on the year.
It marks the first double-digit win season for MacArthur in seven years, dating back to a 10-15 campaign in 2019.
The milestone is particularly significant considering the program’s recent struggles. MacArthur finished 1-32 in 2024 before improving to 7-18 last season. With Wednesday’s victory, the Generals have already surpassed their combined win total from the previous two seasons.
Junior Trinitee Sutton has led the offensive attack this season, recording a team-high 160 kills with a .240 hitting percentage in the available season statistics. Sutton has also contributed 120 digs and 26 service aces.
Junior Laniyah Taylor has added 83 kills and 110 digs, while senior Zahnya Gibbs has recorded 64 kills and 29 total blocks.
On the defensive side, junior Natalya Manns leads the Generals with 189 digs, while junior Nora Barnett has directed the offense with a team-high 233 assists.
Brooklinn Beals has also contributed 41 kills, 70 digs and 25 service aces.
With the regular season approaching its conclusion, MacArthur will soon turn its attention to another milestone: ending a four-year postseason victory drought.
According to IHSA tournament records, the Generals’ last postseason victory came on October 24, 2022, when they defeated crosstown rival Eisenhower in three sets, 25-22, 19-25, 25-17, in the Class 3A Rochester Regional.
MacArthur fell to Springfield High in the following round and has not won a postseason match since.
The Generals will look to build on their progress when they travel to face Cerro Gordo/Bement on Monday, October 19, before hosting Springfield Lanphier on October 20.
