One Year in, Madigan’s Release Date is Less than Five Years Away

Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan is now scheduled for release from federal prison on October 5th, 2031. The Bureau of Prisons lists that date one year after Madigan began serving a seven-and-a-half-year sentence at a federal prison camp in Morgantown, West Virginia. Madigan, now 84, was convicted in February 2025 on ten counts tied to public corruption. His legal fight is not over: he has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case, after the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals upheld his conviction in April 2026. Madigan served in the Illinois House for five decades.
