The Thomas More Society says the state of Illinois agreed to an amended court order that protects more than 95% of the state’s Catholic health care institutions along with individual religious health care practitioners from the End of Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act. Under the order from U.S. District Court Judge Franklin Valderrama, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and the Illinois Department of Public Health are restrained from enforcing the state law that took effect on September 12th. The order remains in effect until the court rules on the plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction, which will be briefed after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit issues its decision and mandate in related cases.
