Millikin University and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital are teaming up to raise breast cancer awareness during Saturday’s football game against Illinois Wesleyan University.
The annual Real Men Wear Pink game is scheduled for 6 p.m. October 17 at Frank M. Lindsay Field in Decatur.
Cancer survivors will receive free admission. HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital will also provide information about women’s health and breast cancer services. A tailgate and tent sponsored by the hospital will begin at 5 p.m. in the south end zone.
Millikin Vice President for Athletics and Community Engagement Lori Kerans said the event has personal meaning for her as a two-time breast cancer survivor.
Kerans said the game gives the university and community an opportunity to support survivors and encourage women to make their health a priority.
Valerie Jordan, manager of oncology services at St. Mary’s Hospital, said the partnership helps connect people with breast health resources and encourages women to learn about prevention and early detection.
Fans are encouraged to wear pink to support breast cancer awareness. Accessible parking will be available at the north stadium entrance off Eldorado Street.
