Students at Muffley Elementary School received free haircuts ahead of Picture Day through the fifth annual Mustang Cutz event.
Decatur Public Schools partnered with Elevations Barber Shop to provide the haircuts. The event helps students feel more confident and get ready for their school pictures.
Tana Link, principal secretary at Muffley Elementary, helped start Mustang Cutz in 2022 with Elevations Barber Shop.
“If our kids look good, they feel good. That’s always been my slogan,” Link said.
Link said the idea was to give students haircuts before Picture Day so they could feel good about how they looked in their photos.
Elevations Barber Jerry Cole and two other barbers donated their time from 8 a.m. to noon.
Cole said the barbers look forward to giving back to the community each year, especially to families who may not be able to afford a haircut.
He said the haircuts can also help build students’ confidence.
Picture Day at Muffley Elementary School is scheduled for October 15.
