Heritage Behavioral Health Center says its Oasis Day and Resource Center in Decatur is closing permanently.
The closure ends a program that provided showers, laundry, mail, referrals and daytime shelter for people experiencing homelessness.
The center had been suspended since September 24th. For people experiencing homelessness, Oasis provided a place to access basic daily needs, including showers, laundry, mail service, referrals, lockers, and a safe daytime space.
Heritage CEO Mary Garrison says the decision to close Oasis is not financial. Instead, she says the organization is shifting its focus toward mental health care and crisis services.
Heritage says it is now asking community partners to help fill the service gaps left by the closure. That includes support for people who relied on Oasis for hygiene services, mail access, storage, and daytime shelter.
Anyone who used Oasis services will have 30 days to collect personal belongings and mail.
