Decatur Police are investigating a shots-fired incident reported Monday morning near the city’s west end.
Officers were called to the area of Sawyer Street and Graceland Avenue at around 9:30 a.m. after reports of gunfire in the neighborhood. When police arrived, they blocked off roughly two city blocks as they began searching the area and collecting evidence.
Deputy Chief Scott Rosenbery says the initial reports indicated a sedan was chasing a van, and that someone inside the sedan was firing shots during the chase.
So far, no injuries have been reported. However, police say a home in the 500 block of West Sawyer Street was struck by gunfire. Investigators also located shell casings on North Edward Street, suggesting the incident may have stretched across more than one area.
Police have not announced any arrests at this time. The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Decatur Police.
