Several recreation areas at Lake Shelbyville will temporarily close next weekend as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hosts a youth deer hunt.
The youth deer hunt is scheduled for October 10 and 11. For safety reasons, several recreation areas will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic beginning at 2 p.m. Friday, October 9, and continuing through 8 p.m. Sunday, October 11.
The closures include Whitley Creek Recreation Area, Opossum Creek Campground and Boat Ramp, Wilborn Creek Campground and Boat Ramp, and Lone Point Campground.
Boat ramps within the Opossum Creek, Whitley Creek and Wilborn Creek recreation areas will also be closed during the hunt.
Several boat ramps will remain open, including those at Dam West, Lone Point, Lithia Springs, Coon Creek and Bo Wood recreation areas. Boat ramps at Wolf Creek and Eagle Creek state parks will also remain open, along with all secondary ramps.
The closures are being put in place as a safety precaution during the youth deer hunt.
