Women age 40 and older who do not have health insurance or whose insurance does not adequately cover breast cancer screening can receive a free mammogram this October through Mammogram Mondays at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
The program is available throughout October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The screenings are funded by the Decatur Memorial Foundation.
To qualify, women must be at least 40 years old and be uninsured or underinsured. The program is intended to help remove financial barriers that may prevent women from receiving recommended breast cancer screenings.
Appointments are required, and no walk-ins will be accepted.
Screenings will be provided at the Memorial Breast Center, located at 302 West Hay Street, Suite 117, in Decatur.
Women who believe they qualify can call 217-876-2320 to schedule an appointment.
The American College of Radiology and Society of Breast Imaging recommend annual screening mammograms beginning at age 40 for women at average risk. Early detection can improve treatment options and outcomes.
