The Illinois Supreme Court will not review the case of Decatur resident Kelly Nichols, who had been found guilty on child pornography charges. Nichols and her husband, Doug Nichols, were arrested in 2022 and later convicted of possessing child pornography. However, an appellate court vacated both convictions, effectively overturning those rulings. The high court’s decision means the appellate court’s action will stand. While the possession convictions have been vacated, Doug Nichols still faces separate charges, including criminal sexual assault of a minor and aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor. Those cases remain separate from the Supreme Court’s decision involving the earlier convictions.
