Students at Central A&M High School and Gregory Intermediate School will get a close-up look at two Illinois Army National Guard helicopters.
Weather permitting, a UH-60 Black Hawk and a UH-72 Lakota are expected to land behind the schools, in the area between the school buildings and the softball field, on Friday.
The visit is being coordinated by several Central A&M alumni who are serving with the Illinois Army National Guard. Connor Mitchell, a crew chief, and Ethan Woodard, a mechanic, will be bringing the Black Hawk, while Central A&M alumnus Zach Manhart will be piloting the Lakota.
The helicopters will be on hand to give students an opportunity to see the aircraft up close and learn more about the equipment and the people who operate and maintain them.
The Illinois Army National Guard is notifying the community about the planned helicopter activity so residents in the area are aware of the aircraft and landing.
The landing is dependent on weather and other flight conditions.
