Fuel prices are easing slightly across Illinois, but drivers are still paying far more than they did a year ago. AAA reports the statewide average for regular unleaded was $4.78 a gallon on Monday. That’s down one cent from Sunday and 13 cents lower than last week. Still, the price remains well above last year’s average of $3.38.
Diesel prices are also down by a penny, averaging $6.79 a gallon Monday. But the comparison is even sharper for diesel users: one year ago, Illinois diesel averaged $3.75 a gallon — more than three dollars less than Monday.
