ARCOLA, Ill. — Arcola will not take the field for its Week 7 football game against Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond after injuries left the Purple Riders unable to play this week.
Arcola announced Monday that it will forfeit the game against ALAH, citing injuries throughout the roster.
The school said the decision was made with hopes that sitting out this week will allow several injured players additional time to recover and potentially return for the final two weeks of the regular season.
“Unfortunately, due to injuries, we are forced to forfeit this week’s football game vs ALAH,” the school said in its announcement.
The forfeit could give 6-0 ALAH a win for Week 7, but they will have the opportunity to find an opponent on short notice. While Arcola will turn its attention toward getting healthy for Weeks 8 and 9.
Arcola becomes another Central Illinois program affected by roster and injury issues this season. Clinton previously canceled the remainder of its varsity season because of injuries and low numbers, while Eisenhower canceled its varsity season before the year began.
