Clinton is preparing for one of its busiest weekends of the year as the 58th annual Apple N’ Pork Festival returns Saturday and Sunday.
City officials say the festival can bring as many as 80,000 people to Clinton, with many of those visitors traveling into the community for the event at the C.H. Moore Homestead and throughout downtown.
Clinton Police Chief Ben Lowers is reminding visitors to pay attention to changing traffic patterns, street closures and parking restrictions.
Lowers says visitors do not need to park along the highway and walk to the festival. Parking is available near the Homestead grounds and at Clinton High School, where visitors can take a bus to the downtown area.
Police are also reminding visitors that pets are not allowed on the Homestead grounds. Golf carts are also prohibited on streets that are closed for the festival.
Clinton Mayor Helen Michelassi says many Clinton and DeWitt County first responders will be working throughout the weekend to help keep visitors safe.
The festival runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the C.H. Moore Homestead. The event features food vendors, live music, a flea market, historic demonstrations, a tractor show and other activities.
Officials are asking visitors to plan ahead, follow posted traffic restrictions and give themselves extra time when traveling through Clinton this weekend.
