Drivers and downtown businesses in Taylorville should be aware of temporary street closures and parking restrictions next weekend for one of the communities biggest events of the year: Chillifest.
Beginning Friday, October 2, portions of West Market Street will close to traffic at noon and remain closed through the event and cleanup Sunday.
At 4 p.m. Friday, the remainder of the Taylorville Square will close to vehicular traffic. The closures will remain in place through the conclusion of Chillifest and cleanup activities Sunday.
Parking will also be limited on streets leading to and from the Square throughout the weekend. The restrictions are needed to accommodate event staging, vendors and emergency access.
Downtown businesses are encouraged to schedule deliveries before the noon and 4 p.m. closure times Friday. Residents in or near the closure area should move their vehicles before the restrictions take effect to avoid being blocked in or towed.
Sidewalks will remain open, allowing pedestrian access to downtown businesses during normal operating hours.
Drivers should plan ahead and use alternate routes when traveling through downtown Taylorville during Chillifest.
