Illinois AG Hails Order Preventing Changes to Benefits Access Law

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is praising a federal court order striking down Trump administration rule changes affecting access to certain taxpayer-funded benefits. Raoul joined a coalition of 21 attorneys general in a July 2025 lawsuit challenging the federal government’s reinterpretation of laws tied to social services. His office says the changes would have put major funding at risk, including an estimated 182-point-5 million dollars a year in Illinois for mental health and substance abuse prevention, treatment, and recovery programs. Raoul says the ruling helps protect vulnerable residents who depend on those services across the state.
