ISP Reminds Teens to Stay Safe While Celebrating Homecoming Events

Illinois State Police are urging teens to make safe choices during homecoming season. Troopers point to federal crash data showing young drivers make up nine-percent of all drivers involved in fatal crashes. The numbers also show 53-percent of young drivers killed were not wearing a seatbelt, while 29-percent had alcohol in their system. Police say the message is simple: buckle up, stay sober, and never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver. Illinois has zero tolerance for underage drinking, meaning any amount of alcohol can bring serious consequences. Parents are also encouraged to talk with teens before celebrations begin.
