State Issues More Medical Cannabis Licenses

Illinois is expanding access to medical cannabis in its largest market growth since 2016. The Department of Financial and Professional Regulation has issued medical cannabis licenses to 37 existing dispensaries. Those locations can now serve registered medical patients at the lower medical tax rate, while continuing adult-use sales at the same site. The change follows Senate Bill 3222, signed by Governor J.B. Pritzker on June 12. State officials say Illinois now has 288 adult-use cannabis dispensaries, including 178 tied to social equity lotteries. The move is expected to give patients more options and broaden participation in the state’s regulated cannabis industry.
