Decatur police arrested one man after several fights broke out following Friday night’s MacArthur varsity football game.
Decatur Public Schools says the fights happened during and after the game. Officers with the Decatur Police Department and deputies from the Macon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to help control the situation and keep people safe.
According to police, Fredrick Currie was involved in a fight with multiple people. Authorities tell WAND News that an officer attempted to stop Currie as he was allegedly charging toward another person.
Police say Currie then struck officers twice before he was taken into custody.
Decatur Public Schools says it is reviewing the incident and plans to add safety protocols at upcoming events. The district says those additional measures are intended to help protect students, families, staff, and spectators at future games and school activities.
