Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs says the state investment portfolio generated $1.45 billion in earnings during fiscal year 2026. The Treasurer’s Office says the returns came through careful management of state funds, with earnings helping support public services without raising taxes. The office also reported nearly $759 million in gross investment earnings for local governments through the Illinois Funds program. That pool serves cities, school districts, counties, and other public agencies across the state. Frerichs says the results show how responsible investing can strengthen both state and local finances while keeping taxpayer dollars working for Illinois communities.
