A 13-year-old boy is dead following a traffic crash Monday night in Pana.
According to the Pana Police Department, 911 received a call around 9:39 p.m. Monday about a single-vehicle/pedestrian crash in the 500 block of South Poplar Street.
Officers arriving at the scene found the 13-year-old boy deceased in the roadway. Police say a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 16-year-old girl, had stopped approximately 107 feet north of 7th Street.
Investigators say the Tahoe was slowing to a stop before beginning to move forward. The 13-year-old was attempting to re-enter the vehicle when he was struck as the vehicle started moving. The vehicle immediately stopped, and medical personnel were called to the scene.
The driver and another 16-year-old passenger in the Tahoe were not injured.
The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, Christian County Coroner’s Office and Pana Police Department are investigating the crash.
Pana Fire, EMS, ECHO Ambulance and the Christian County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police say no additional information is available at this time.
