Small business confidence climbed in July, according to the National Federation of Independent Business. The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index rose 2.4 points to 99.8, putting it above the 52-year average of 98.0 and marking its highest reading since August 2025. But uncertainty remains elevated. The NFIB Uncertainty Index increased two points and stayed well above its historical average of 68. In Illinois, NFIB State Director Noah Finley says many Main Street businesses are still struggling to find qualified workers. The report suggests business owners are feeling more optimistic, even as labor challenges and economic uncertainty continue to weigh on future planning.
