Illinois’ state finances started the fiscal year on stronger footing. A new monthly briefing from the Illinois Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability shows state revenue rose 4.1 percent in July compared with the same month in 2025. The biggest boost came from corporate income tax collections, which surged 65.2 percent. Sales tax revenue also climbed, up 12.9 percent, signaling steady consumer spending across the state. The report gives lawmakers an early snapshot of revenue trends as budget pressures continue. Analysts will be watching future months closely to see whether July’s gains hold or level off.
