The Chicago Bears are putting their focus on a potential new stadium in Hammond, Indiana.
During Thursday’s annual media availability, Bears President and CEO Kevin Warren said the organization is concentrating its efforts on developing a new stadium in Hammond.
The team is evaluating two potential locations — Lost Marsh and Wolf Lake Terminal.
Warren says the Bears have completed due diligence on the Lost Marsh site and are continuing to evaluate Wolf Lake. The sites could potentially be incorporated into a larger stadium and mixed-use development.
However, the Bears did not announce a final decision or a timeline for construction.
The team has been exploring options for a new stadium for several years, with the future of Soldier Field remaining uncertain. The Bears previously pursued a new stadium development in Arlington Heights, but today’s comments indicate Hammond is currently the organization’s primary focus.
Bears Chairman George McCaskey also addressed speculation about the team’s identity, saying a move to Indiana would not mean changing the franchise’s name. The team would continue to be known as the Chicago Bears.
For now, the Bears say they are continuing their evaluation of the Hammond sites, with no timetable announced for the next major step.
