Illinois Strengthens Legal Protections and Support Systems for Children

Illinois is expanding protections for children with three new laws signed by Governor J.B. Pritzker. The measures are designed to strengthen child abuse investigations, improve support for young people leaving foster care, and add grooming to the state’s definition of sexual misconduct. Supporters say the changes will help ensure abuse survivors receive more compassionate, comprehensive care while giving investigators stronger tools to identify and address harm. The foster care measure also aims to better prepare youth for independence as they transition into adulthood. Pritzker says the legislation is focused on preventing future exploitation and protecting vulnerable children across Illinois.
