3Christian County health officials are reporting a second mosquito sample has tested positive for West Nile Virus this year. The Health Department says the sample was collected Monday and tested the following day. The county’s first positive West Nile sample was reported July 20 in Taylorville.
Officials are reminding residents to reduce mosquito exposure by using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves when possible, and removing standing water around homes, including buckets, bird baths, gutters, and flowerpots. West Nile Virus is most commonly spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. Residents are urged to take precautions, especially during dawn and dusk.
