U.S. Rep. Delia Ramirez to Take Medical Leave in August

U.S. Representative Delia Ramirez of Illinois says she will take a medical leave of absence for several weeks to undergo what she calls a medically required surgical procedure. Ramirez says she is sharing the information in the interest of transparency. Her office says staff will continue working, and constituent services will remain available while she is away, during Congress’ August recess. The announcement comes amid heightened attention on lawmakers’ health, following Senator Mitch McConnell’s absence from Capitol Hill after suffering cardiac arrest. Ramirez has not released further medical details, but says her team will maintain operations during her recovery.
