Illinois Legislative Ethics Commission Vote to Release Benton Report

The Illinois Legislative Ethics Commission is moving toward releasing a report on former state Representative Harry Benton’s conduct. Benton, a Plainfield Democrat, resigned earlier this month after sexual harassment allegations surfaced. The commission voted to publish the legislative inspector general’s findings from the investigation that led to his departure. Before the documents are released, Benton and his accuser will be allowed to review the report, suggest redactions, and submit responses. The report is expected to be made public by July 31st. The Chicago Tribune has reported that House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch’s office knew of the allegations years earlier.
