Report Ranks Illinois Commutes Among the Nation’s Safest

Illinois is being ranked among the top ten safest states for commuters, despite also posting one of the nation’s higher average crash rates. The ranking comes from Beck and Beck, a car accident law firm, which reviewed U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data from 2020 through 2024. Illinois placed tenth overall, suggesting that while crashes remain a concern, commuting outcomes in the state compare favorably with much of the country. The report highlights the complex picture on Illinois roads: frequent traffic incidents, but stronger safety performance by other key measures used in the analysis.
