Illinois residents and businesses hit by severe weather this spring may qualify for disaster tax relief. Governor J.B. Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Revenue say taxpayers in 11 counties covered by the state’s disaster proclamation can request waivers for penalties and interest if storms between March 10th and June 21st kept them from filing or paying on time. The relief applies to income, withholding, sales, specialty, and excise taxes. To apply, taxpayers should send IDOR a brief written explanation of how the weather caused the delay. Requests can be emailed to REV.DisasterRelief@illinois.gov or sent by postal mail.
