Illinois is moving to end the use of certain wild animals in traveling entertainment acts. Governor J.B. Pritzker signed House Bill 4255 as part of a package of 62 bills approved last Friday. The new law bans lions, tigers, primates, and bears from being used in circuses, fairs, and other traveling shows across the state. Supporters say the measure is aimed at protecting animals from stressful transport, confinement, and performance conditions. The ban is set to take effect today, Wednesday, July 1, giving operators time to adjust their acts before enforcement begins.
