Illinois is expanding protections for the LGBTQ-plus community under three new laws signed by Governor J.B. Pritzker. The measures block out-of-state efforts to use medical records stored in Illinois to penalize people who come to the state for gender-affirming care. They also require insurers to cover up to six months of prescribed hormone therapy. Another provision sets a process for residents to select a gender marker on Illinois IDs and driver’s licenses. Pritzker signed the bills yesterday while attending the Chicago Pride Parade, framing the move as part of the state’s broader commitment to LGBTQ-plus rights.
