The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Tornado Warning for northeastern Macon County, southeastern De Witt County, central Piatt County, southwestern Champaign County and north central Douglas County until 5:00 PM Wednesday.
At 4:08 PM, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Cisco, near Monticello, moving east at 60 mph.
The storm is capable of producing a tornado and half dollar size hail. Forecasters warn that flying debris will be dangerous to anyone caught outdoors. Mobile homes could be damaged or destroyed, while damage to roofs, windows, vehicles and trees is possible.
Communities in the warning area include Monticello, Ivesdale, Tolono, Sadorus, Pesotum, Philo and Willard Airport.
Residents in the warning area should take shelter immediately in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
A Tornado Watch remains in effect for the entire listening area until 10 PM CDT. Additional warnings may be issued through the evening as severe weather continues across the region.
