Illinois State Police Troop 9 will ramp up Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement patrols in Effingham, Hamilton, Marion, Wabash, and Wayne counties throughout June. These targeted efforts focus on reducing impaired driving and enforcing laws on alcohol and drug use, open containers, distracted driving, and proper seatbelt and child restraint usage. Troopers will be vigilant in spotting unsafe driving behaviors and violations such as operating with a suspended or revoked license. With impaired driving implicated in nearly half of Illinois’ fatal crashes, authorities are emphasizing zero tolerance. This initiative is funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
