Authorities say the collision happened just before 1 p.m., leading to the closure of the busy intersection for several hours while police investigated and directed traffic to alternate routes. According to Decatur police, the crash involved a 21-year-old woman and the older driver. Doctors have since identified a life-threatening medical condition in the man, and investigators are working to determine whether it stemmed from the accident or was pre-existing.
