Illinois drivers are seeing some relief at the pump as the average price for regular unleaded gasoline has dipped to $2.89 per gallon. Data from Triple A shows prices have steadily decreased from $2.93 just a week ago, and $3.06 one month ago. Despite this drop, Illinois still has the highest average gas price in the Midwest, and its rates remain above the national average of $2.82. The state’s position is influenced by having the nation’s second-highest gas tax, contributing to higher per-gallon costs even as prices trend downward across much of the region.
