Pope Leo Disappointed In Illinois’ Assisted Suicide Law
Pope Leo the 14th is “very disappointed” that Governor Pritzker signed a new Illinois law allowing for medically assisted suicide. Leo said he spoke with Governor Pritzker and urged him to not sign the bill, adding that Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich did the same. The Pope said they were very clear about the necessity to respect the sacredness of life from the very beginning to the very end. Pritzker signed the legislation earlier this month. The measure provides qualified terminally ill patients with the option to seek medication to end their lives on their own terms in consultation with physicians.
