Pritzker, Johnson Tell Trump To Keep National Guard Out of Chicago
(Chicago, IL) — State and local leaders are telling President Trump to keep the National Guard out of Chicago. Governor Pritzker said there is no reason for Trump to send troops to the city to fight crime, calling the move unconstitutional and un-American. The governor also urged residents to protest peacefully if troops are deployed. Mayor Brandon Johnson asked the Trump administration to provide more funding for violence prevention. Pritzker, Johnson, and Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul said they are exploring all legal options should Trump deploy guardsmen. The fiery speech came the same day Trump appeared to waver on whether he would send federal troops into Chicago, saying he may wait until he gets a request from Pritzker to do so.
