Illinois Residents Protected From Utility Disconnections During Heat
(Springfield, IL) — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is reminding Illinois residents that they are protected from utility service disconnections during hot weather. A new law protects vulnerable residents from gas or electric utility service disconnections for nonpayment of bills when temperatures are 90 degrees or above, or when the National Weather Service issues an excessive heat watch, heat advisory, or excessive heat warning. Temperatures in parts of Illinois are forecasted to be above 90 degrees in the coming days.
