Preston Jackson Park Dedication Ceremony – Oct. 12
Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and the Decatur City Council will formally dedicate Preston Jackson Park in a ceremony on Wednesday, October 12, 2022.
The event runs from 11:30am to 1:30pm and will start with the dedication ceremony. The City will unveil a brass plaque honoring Mr. Jackson as well as park signs denoting Preston Jackson Park. Food will be available for purchase from Vinnie’s Barbee Q, and there will be some live jazz music.
History: On June 20, 2022, the Decatur City Council passed a resolution naming the downtown green space after Decatur native and world-renowned sculptor Preston Jackson. The park already houses one of Jackson’s sculptures honoring African American Civil War soldiers.
Preston Jackson Park is located at 337 N Water Street in downtown Decatur. We hope the public will join the Preston Jackson family, City Council, and other City leaders in celebration. Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/643973883735915/
