Proposed Amendment 1 Discussion
Amendment Could Lead to Unlimited Union Leader Power, Tax Hikes
DECATUR, ILL. (Sept. 17, 2022) — Ted Dabrowski, president of Wirepoints, Inc., will
speak on proposed Amendment 1 to the Illinois Constitution at a public meeting to be
held Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Decatur Conference
Center.
Amendment 1 has been billed as a “right-to-work” law. If passed, it would be the first
constitutional amendment of its kind in the country. According to the Illinois Policy
Institute, this amendment would “enshrine collective bargaining rights in the Illinois
Constitution and allow government union contracts to override any other state law.”
The amendment would include four labor provisions in the state constitution:
• Allow collective bargaining negotiations over limitless subjects.
• Make organizing and bargaining a fundamental right for any government
employee.
• Prohibit legislators from interfering with or diminishing union power.
• Ban right-to-work laws. In contrast, nine other state constitutions include right-towork language, which allows workers the right to determine for themselves
whether to join and pay a union.
The public is encouraged to attend this free event and learn more about this proposed
amendment, whose fate will be determined by Illinois voters on Nov. 8.
Dabrowski‘s appearance is in conjunction with the “Restore Our Constitution” series.
