Federal Report Calls Out State Department of Employment Security for Not Disclosing Misspending
The Labor Department has released a report that calls out Illinois and other states for not providing required information on taxpayers’ funds spent on federal programs that were created during the pandemic. This includes expanded jobless benefits. The programs expired almost a year ago but the Labor Department says without information on how a state performed, the government cannot examine state activities and learn how to prevent overpayments and fraud in the future. The report says data also show Illinois is two months behind in its monthly reporting.
