City of Decatur welcomes Illinois Municipal League Board of Directors
Decatur, IL – Decatur Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe welcomes the Illinois Municipal League (IML) Board of Directors and guests to the community this week for IML’s Summer Meetings. Mayor Moore Wolfe is the current president of IML.
In addition to board and committee meetings, attendees will participate in a number of local tours and activities in Decatur.
“It’s an exciting opportunity for me to show Decatur at its very best,” said Mayor Moore Wolfe. “Many of these mayors have not been to Decatur in a very long time, so they’re in for a real treat!”
Highlights of the mayors’ visit will be a tour of the Macon County Law Enforcement Training Campus. Mayors will have the opportunity to participate in the VirTra Police Training Simulator Experience, as well as see the training offerings in rescue services.
Additionally, participants will learn about Decatur’s rich history with visits to local museums, shopping at our local merchants, and some guests will take part in a cooking demonstration at Murphy & Co.
The board meeting will be held on Millikin University’s campus, offering another chance to highlight one of Decatur’s treasures.
Mayor Moore Wolfe was unanimously elected to serve as the 2021-2022 President of IML. She is the first Decatur mayor to serve as IML President in nearly 80 years. The last Decatur mayor in that elected position was Mayor Charles Lee, who was mayor in the early 1940s. Moore Wolfe has served as Decatur’s mayor since 2015 and on City Council since 2009.
The Illinois Municipal League is the statewide organization representing local communities throughout Illinois. Founded in 1913, IML has worked continuously for the benefit of all 1,295 municipalities in Illinois to provide a voice on matters involving common interests.
