Early Friday Accident Leaves Decatur Man Dead
At approximately 5am, 4/22/22, Decatur Police Officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of E. Eldorado in reference to a personal injury accident.
Initial investigation revealed that a white 2002 Chevy Silverado pickup was traveling west in the right-hand lane in the 2400 block of E. Eldorado. A 2021 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer was traveling east in the right-hand lane in the 2400 block of E. Eldorado. The pickup crossed the center line into eastbound traffic and struck the trailer of the semi-tractor.
The driver of the pickup was a 53-year-old male and Decatur resident. The pickup driver was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. There were no other occupants in the pickup. The driver of the semi was a 57-year-old male from Carlyle. The driver of the semi was not injured.
It is unknown at this time, if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in this accident.
Members of the Fatal Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and are investigating the crash. No further information will be released at this time.
